Psychology (lit. "study of the soul" or "study of the mind") is an academic and applied discipline which involves the scientific study of human (or animal) mental functions and behaviors. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist, and is classified as a social scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the underlying physiological and neurological processes. Psychologists study such topics as perception, cognition, attention, emotion, motivation, personality, behavior and interpersonal relationships. Some, especially depth psychologists, also consider the unconscious mind. In addition or opposition to employing empirical and deductive methods, psychologists sometimes rely upon symbolic interpretation and other inductive techniques. Psychological knowledge is applied to various spheres of human activity, including the family, education, and employment; and to the treatment of mental health problems. Psychology includes many sub-fields that span areas as diverse as human development, sports, health, industry, media and law. Psychology incorporates research from the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities. The word psychology is from Greek: ψυχή (psukhē: "breath", "spirit", "soul"); and -λογία (-logia: "study of"). From Wikipedia under the

Answered by I - Thu Feb 11 03:09:55 2010 How do you become an RN with a bachelors in psychology?
Q. I was looking up careers in psychology and found out that I can become an RN with a bachelors in psychology. How is this possible when the nursing programs are very competitive and once you enter the program you have to do clinicals, learn about diseases (etc) which has nothing to do with psychology. If this is true, how long does it take? Asked by Bebe - Fri May 11 22:41:05 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It doesn't have to a bachelors in only psychology. As long as you have a bachelors or higher, they have a BSN program specifically for people with bachelor degrees. Its designed for you to learn the diseases and you also have a clinical component.. I think the program is less than 2yrs not sure. Depends which school you apply to. I'm also not sure, but i think they have accelerated program for people with bachelors. Its intense but youll finish faster. Check with schools you are interested with about their requirements i.e GPA, pre reqs, tests, etc. Answered by stemo - Fri May 11 23:04:53 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Psychology" Psychology is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes and behavior.
