Mind (pronounced /ˈmaɪnd/) is the aspect of intellect and consciousness experienced as combinations of thought, perception, memory, emotion, will and imagination, including all unconscious cognitive processes. The term is often used to refer, by implication, to the thought processes of reason. Mind manifests itself subjectively as a stream of consciousness. Theories of mind and its function are numerous. Earliest recorded speculations are from the likes of Zoroaster, the Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, Adi Shankara and other ancient Greek, Indian and, later, Islamic philosophers. Pre-scientific theories grounded in theology concentrated on the supposed relationship between the mind and the soul, our supernatural, divine or god-given essence. Most contemporary theories, informed by scientific study of the brain, theorize that the mind is an epiphenomenon of the brain which has both conscious and unconscious aspects. Which attributes make up the mind is much debated. Some argue that only the higher intellectual functions constitute mind, particularly reason and memory. In this view the emotions—love, hate, fear, joy—are more primitive or subjective in nature and should be seen as different from the mind as such. Others argue that various rational and emotional states cannot be so separated, that they are of the same nature and origin, and should therefore be considered all part of what we call the mind. In popular usage mind is frequently synonymous with thought: the private conversation with ourselves that we carry on "inside our heads." Thus we "make up our minds," "change our minds" or are "of two minds" about something. One of the key attributes of the mind in this sense is that it is a private sphere to which no one but the owner has access. No one else can "know our mind." They can only interpret what we consciously or unconsciously communicate. From Wikipedia under the

Every time I try to pay attention to reading a novel, listening and paying attention to instructors' lectures in campus, and focus on studying, my mind prefers to wander around. How can I keep my mind focus? Please keep in mind the when my mind wanders around, my overall performance suffers. Help. Asked by caltam84 - Wed May 20 17:42:21 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The lack of focus can be contributed by various things. For some people the type of food they eat makes them feel just as you described. While others are just unable to focus because there isn't a drive or an interest. I my self am a pretty focused person in school. No matter what the subject is, well yes it does depend on the activity but over all I'm focused most of the time. I don't have any personal tips though, since I just enjoy learning. But I did find something that might help you. Answered by Jon-McAtk - Wed May 20 21:49:05 2009 How can you force you mind to focus on study when there is so many good shows on television? Q. My mind goes off into day dreams, or forces me to watch a show whenever I try to study or do assessments. It has become very destructive to my overall grades. Asked by journalism fan - Tue May 1 23:01:04 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Self-discipline. Start now when you are young. Let's face it, there are many good TV shows on and there probably always will be. You're probably in the home stretch in school right now. You can do it. Finish all assignments and start studying for your finals now. It's never too late. Either tape or TiVo, or DVR your favorite shows. Don't even turn the TV on. Go to a place where there will be no distractions. Depending on your age, start studying for 1 to 2 hours, then give yourself a break for a half hour--maybe have a snack (remember, no TV) take a walk around the block, shower, etc. --then back to the books for another two hours--repeat. You can do it! Self-discipline and time management is essential in life. Q. The rich cannot stop making profit. I am very puzzled about this. Mind can be the most powerful thing. People cannot control it but mind controls them. But it's more puzzling that a few people pay attention to understand it whereas a lot of people ignore it.
